One for the Record Books
Monday, November 5, 2007 will remain in Winnifred Stewart’s record books forever. 18-year old Peter Churney, a local teen and long-time Winnifred Stewart Association supporter, completed 225 indoor bungee jumps in a 24-hour period, shattering his original record of 106 jumps, which he set just one year ago. Peter was confident that he could successfully double the number of jumps from his previous record, and he reached his goal once again this year. By breaking his own record, Peter hopes to make it harder for any future bungee jumper to remove his name from the Guiness Book of World Records.
Peter didn’t do this just for the glory; he was raising money for the Winnifred Stewart Association. Peter exceeded his target fundraising goal of $2,000 with help from WSA staff and families. This prompted our own CEO, Larry Smook, to kick off Peter’s bungee jump attempt with a leap of his own. “It was an incredible experience, but one I will not be doing again”, said Larry. Overall, the hair-raising event generated over $2,500, which will be used for the construction of a feng shui garden. WSA’s clientele and their families can access this garden to reflect on the past and experience peace and calm in a natural setting.
Special thanks to Center of Gravity in West Edmonton Mall who donated the bungee equipment for the
event, and a big thank you to all the volunteers, especially Peter, who made this event possible.
